Harry Potter: The Gateway Drug to Fandom

Ever remember an old fanfic that you read and enjoyed and try to find it to reread it, only to discover that the author has erased it from the Internet? For usually these reasons:
1) The author is no longer in the fandom
2) The author is trying to rewrite the fanfic and so has erased the old version
3) The author just doesn’t like the fanfic anymore or thinks that it was badly-written
Because this has happened to me and I just get a sad feeling when it happens. Yes, the old fanfics that I’m talking about weren’t always well-written and they weren’t perfect, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. Even if the authors don’t like them anymore or are embarrassed by them, I still liked them. I don’t see why they have to remove the fanfics if they aren’t in the fandom anymore. Oh, well.Note: I know that most of these myths came about before the Ancient Greeks had an established writing system. This anachronism, as well as the anachronistic dialogue, is purely here for the purposes of the parody.
Here’s a minor complaint to fanfic writers: If you’re advertising your fanfic as a crossover showdown between two characters from different fandoms, don’t make one of the characters such a pushover!
It’s one thing if it’s a spitefic and the entire point is to write another character showing up a character that you don’t like. But when the premise of your fanfic essentially boils down to “Character X from Fandom A meets Character Y from Fandom B, who will win?”, it’s really underwhelming when one of the characters overpowers and defeats the other character in two minutes.

I’m not a frequent visitor to TV Tropes. I’ve heard that it’s insanely addictive and that one can be lost for hours looking up tropes, so I’ve tried to resist the temptation. However, I see people reference tropes all the time on the Internet, and very often these tropes handily provide labels to the problems that I frequently have with fiction. One of these problems is Derailing Love Interests.
