YA Drinking Game
Apr. 14th, 2013 10:50 amNote: This was inspired by some YA novels that I've read recently.
Take one shot if:
There’s a love triangle.
Take two shots if:
There’s already a tense and compelling plot going on, but the love triangle gets the most focus (i.e. the heroine is more worried about which guy she’s going to date than the end of the world)
**
Take one shot if:
A nice, polite, and fairly good-looking love interest for the heroine is introduced within the first chapter or so of a YA novel and is later unceremoniously kicked to the curb in favor of the hotter love interest.
Take another shot if:
The first love interest turns evil and/or traitor
Take two shots if:
The first love interest is the heroine’s boyfriend
**
Take one shot if:
The protagonist refuses to call or cooperate with the police even if it could help him/her.
**
Take one shot if:
The protagonist does something illegal or morally dubious because he or she “needs to do this.”
**
Take one shot if:
The protagonist’s parent (mother or father) is a careless and insensitive jerk.
Take two shots if:
Both of the protagonist’s parents are careless and insensitive jerks.
Take two shots if:
The protagonist’s parent(s) kept secrets from the protagonist and lied to them because he/she “wasn’t old enough/wouldn’t understand/insert clichéd and unconvincing excuse here.”
**
Take one shot if:
The protagonist can’t stand a sibling (brother or sister) because they’re so different from each other.
Take two shots if:
The protagonist is best friends with one sibling and enemies with another.
**
Take one shot if:
The love interest tells the heroine that she’s “different” without giving a sufficient or satisfying explanation why.
Note: I know that there are many, many more, but these are the ones that I came up with for the moment.
